Juan Alvarez 1979 Classic Guitar
A Special Piece of History
The same model that Eric Clapton played during his first performance of “Tears in Heaven.”
In the video below, Eric Clapton is playing his Juan Alvarez guitar, the instrument that later sold at auction for over $100,000. At Casa Guitarra, we are fortunate to have the very same model, handcrafted by Juan Alvarez himself. Built by the same maker and to the same design, it is, in many ways, a sister guitar to Clapton's.
This beautiful guitar was handcrafted in Madrid in 1979 by the talented luthier Juan Alvarez. The design, the rosette, the construction — everything is identical.
This instrument is inspired by the renowned José Ramirez 1A, featuring a cedar top with Indian rosewood (balisandre)back and sides. It is equipped with original Fustero tuners, and all parts remain completely original.
The guitar has a lovely, warm sound and plays with great ease. It’s not just a player’s instrument — it’s a collector’s item with historical value. We are considering putting it up for auction, as it holds a higher value than many other guitars from the same maker and period.
